  • Kia EV4 named ‘Electric Car of the Year’
  • Kia PV5 Cargo awarded ‘The Sun Van of the Year’
  • First UK award wins since being on sale

The Kia EV4 and Kia PV5 Cargo have each collected their first awards since going on sale earlier this year. The EV4 has been named ‘Electric Car of the Year’, while the PV5 was awarded ‘The Sun Van of the Year’ at the News UK Motor Awards.

The EV4 and PV5 Cargo are among Kia’s new contenders in the EV market, both going on sale in the UK earlier this year. The EV4 is Kia’s first ever C-segment electric hatchback, looking to follow in the footsteps of its multi-award winning sibling, the EV3. The PV5 Cargo is the first vehicle in Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy, launching the brand into the competitive electric Light Commercial Vehicle (e-LCV) market. Both models mark a significant shift in the EV industry, succeeding on affordability, quality and modern design.

The News UK Motor Awards are judged by a panel of News UK’s expert automotive journalists including Rob Gill from The Sun and Will Dron from The TimesRob Gill, The Sun’s Motors Editor, commented: “Kia continues to score home run after home run with its every-growing EV line up. This time it’s EV4, a hugely impressive five-door hatchback, with long-range batteries, spacious cabins and slick in-car tech. EV4 is News UK’s Electric Car of the Year”.

The Kia EV4 is the latest in a line-up of highly decorated fully electric vehicles from Kia, following in the footsteps of its larger sibling the EV3. Aided by its streamlined shape, the EV4 is capable of range up to 391 miles on a single charge the furthest of any Kia EV to date (‘Air’ 81.4kWh). With a starting price of £34,695, the EV4 is perfect for families needing plenty of space in a compact hatchback form.

The Kia PV5 Cargo was unveiled in February 2025, alongside the EV4 at the brand’s second annual EV Day event. Offering a range of up to 258 miles on a single charge the PV5 sets high standards for performance, capability and flexibility. The PV5 Cargo marks Kia’s first steps into the e-LCV market, suitable for multiple cargo- and passenger-hauling purposes.

This award marks a significant milestone for the Kia PV5 Cargo, the first award since its competitive pricing and specifications were announced at the Commercial Vehicle Show in April 2025. Having undergone first production-specification drives on roads in Europe, being named The Sun's overall 'Van of the Year' reinforces the reputation Kia's first PBV has garnished for itself in the build up to its launch.

Rob Gill commented on the Kia PV5 Cargo’s historic award win: “PV5 Cargo is a brilliant first effort from the Koreans at a shockingly good price. The first of many major awards coming Kia’s way, I’m absolutely sure of it. I have lots of friends who run vans – plumbers, painters, sparkies, gardeners – and PV5 Cargo would save them a ton of cash, as well as looking good while they’re at it”.

Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK Limited, commented on the double win: “These high-profile awards come at an important time for Kia UK, as we introduce yet more industry-leading, fully electric products into new market segments and begin serving a wider range of customers. Both the European-built EV4 and commercial vehicle industry-disrupting PV5 will be delivered to customers within this quarter, and it’s pleasing to see such high praise for them as sales momentum continues.”

The Kia EV4 and PV5 are not the first of the brand’s models to find success at the annual News UK Motor Awards, with the Picanto and EV3 being named ‘City/Small Car of the Year and ‘Small SUV/Crossover of the Year’ respectively in 2024.

Chippenham Motor Company Ltd is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd, who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd's permissions as a Principal Firm allows Chippenham Motor Company Ltd and MRG to act as a credit broker, not as a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a carefully selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. We act on behalf of the lender for this introduction and not as your agent. We are not impartial, and we are not an independent financial advisor.

Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next most suitable offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure a suitable finance agreement for you that enables you to achieve your financial objectives. If you purchase a vehicle, in the majority of cases, we will receive a commission from your lender for introducing you to them which is either a fixed fee, or a fixed percentage of the amount that you borrow. This may be linked to the vehicle model you purchase.

Different lenders pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement; however, you will be contributing towards the commission paid to us with the interest collected on your repayments. Before we propose you to a potential lender, we will inform you of the likely amount of commission we will receive and seek your consent to receive this commission. The exact amount of commission that we will receive will be confirmed prior to you signing your finance agreement.

All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18s or over. Guarantees may be required.
