The lustrous Peugeot 508 SW, a tough all-roader designed for more testing routes. Practicality is at the core of each, as their spacious and intuitive interiors demonstrate. High power combined with lower fuel consumption make both variants a pleasure to drive and own.
The SW and clearly follow well-known Peugeot design cues. The same wide grille, horizontal bonnet and angular headlights are found at the front.
A confident posture lets you know the estate is a strong performer, with the RXH sitting slightly higher than its sibling to lift it above rough terrain. Extended wheel arches and uniquely designed bumpers are two other distinguishing features for the RXH. Alloy wheels and roof rails are standard fixtures for every trim and both versions of the car.
The longer build of the 508 Estate creates more interior space for passengers to relax in. It also enlarges the boot to hold 512 litres of luggage when the rear seats are in place. By folding them forward this grows to 1,598 litres from the base of the boot to the roof. Centre console storage, an air-conditioned glovebox, door bins, and cup holders in the front and back carry even more. Full cloth upholstery comes as standard, but when you upgrade to the Allure trim you can select either half-cloth/half-leather or luxurious full leather.
A variety of technology within the 508 SW and RXH assists you when driving and entertains everyone on board. A seven-inch multifunction colour touchscreen on the dashboard incorporates Peugeot’s satellite navigation system, a DAB digital radio and Bluetooth® function. Bluetooth® connects your phone to the system so you can take calls hands-free and stream music from the same device. USB input also enables audio playback from a personal music player. For added support, Peugeot Connect SOS and Assistance is a no-cost feature that automatically alerts the Emergency Services if you have been involved in an accident.
BlueHDi technology in the 508 SW and 508 RXH enable emissions to be reduced dramatically without sacrificing on power. Both 2.0-litre and 1.6-litre units are offered, and the former can be selected as part of a hybrid powertrain.
Four driving modes allow you to select Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) status for all-electric power or four-wheel drive which uses electric and diesel input. The non-hybrid returns up to 72.4mpg combined (508 SW) and releases from 101g/km of CO2. At its quickest the estate will power from 0-60mph in less than nine seconds, with output managed by a quick-change six-speed automatic gearbox.
Safer driving is the outcome of the model’s robust passive fixtures and intelligent technology. Airbags at the front, on each side and along the windows shield you and your fellow occupants from unlikely impacts. ESP with traction control and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) stop them from happening. They maintain the car’s stability when a loss of traction is detected and also correct oversteer or understeer through selective braking. Optimum stopping power is delivered by ABS, Emergency Braking Assistance (EBA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBFD).
