Ford’s EcoSport is an entirely new vehicle concept. Dubbed a Smart Utility Vehicle, it has the strong build of a Sports Utility Vehicle but boasts a smarter design that is compact, technologically-advanced and rewardingly efficient. Taking your seat in the cabin makes you feel in command of the road.
Unforgettable crossover SUV looks define the EcoSport and separate it from others. The lower portion is resilient with tough plastic trim, front and rear skid plate-style bumpers and standard alloy wheels. The upper section gains a silver-finish front grille, LED signature lights and front fog lights with integrated daytime running lights to show that the model isn’t all function without form. Highlighting the EcoSport’s adventurous personality is the spare wheel mounted on the boot door as you’d find on an off-roader and a side opening tailgate.
The car’s condensed exterior dimensions are deceptive. Within them is a cabin that doesn’t feel cramped even for taller adults. Everyone is seated higher up than they would be in a conventional hatchback which gives you a safer view of the surroundings. At the back you can remove the storage shelf, split the back seats and tumble them forwards to easily store luggage or bulky items. Little details make a big difference inside the EcoSport. You can choose a glovebox that turns into a chiller cabinet and keep cold drinks refreshing. Multiple drinks holders and other clever storage areas also place everything you need where it can be reached instantly.
Powerful performance comes from the EcoSport’s petrol and diesel engines. They include the manufacturer’s award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol producing 123bhp. The revolutionary unit delivers the pulling power of a larger engine but with reduced emissions and excellent fuel economy. The EcoSport’s version returns up to 52.3mpg combined. An alternative is the 1.5-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel which returns a rewarding 64.2mpg combined at its most efficient.
A comprehensive suite of safety technology and systems gives you confidence in the SUV’s protection. Driver, passenger, curtain and side airbags join a driver’s knee airbag in the cabin, all included as standard. Intelligent active systems help to prevent any situation where the airbags may be needed.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) includes a Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) to counter any loss of balance and mitigate the chance of an incident. Hill Start Assist in automatic models steadies the car when you stop and pull away on a steep slope. A relaxing and engaging environment is created inside the EcoSport by its various audio and communications systems. Both model types are equipped with a 4.2-inch TFT colour display, USB and auxiliary connection for external music players and remote audio controls. Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance, AppLink and voice controls bring together entertainment and assistance functions into a single simple interface.
