The C-MAX’s space and practicality is only enhanced by the seven-seat Grand C-MAX which allows everyone to travel in first-class. The new generation models offer updated looks and an abundance of clever features that enrich the time you spend on the move.
A slight refreshment has been applied to the exterior rather than a radical overhaul. The new grille resembles that found on other latest-generation Ford cars such as the Mondeo, while the front and rear lights have also been revised to update the car’s looks.
Alloy wheels are a standard addition, and you can match them to the paint finish of your choice. The Appearance Pack fits silver-finish roof rails to the Grand C-MAX which also features a sliding side door on either side to give you access to the cabin with minimal effort.
The flexibility of each model’s interior gives you the freedom to mould the cabin to the needs of each trip. The Grand C-MAX can hold up to 1,787 litres of luggage in two-seat mode, which is as much as some small vans. When all five seats are occupied in the C-MAX there remains room for 432 litres in the boot. There are three individual seats on the second row, and their ‘tip and tumble’ function helps you to instantly set the desired cabin arrangement. Extra storage capacity is given by the overhead console from Titanium trim upwards, while the centre console provides even more space for key items.
The MPV’s impressive list of in-car features includes various audio and communications systems that connect you wherever you travel. Zetec and Grand Zetec models get Ford’s SYNC system at no additional cost. Bluetooth® enables calls to be accepted hands-free, and AppLink integrates your smartphone with the car’s 4.2-inch colour display. Emergency Assistance, another SYNC function, immediately calls the emergency services in the event of an accident. Control of audio and telephone functions is straightforward through the easy-to-use display, yet you can also operate these features via buttons placed directly on the multifunction steering wheel.
Every engine fitted to the C-MAX and Grand C-MAX meets strict requirements for efficiency without compromising on power. Careful engineering and intelligent technology are the reasons for this. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is a perfect example of Ford’s powertrain expertise, as it has the acceleration of a higher capacity unit without the associated fuel economy. Up to 55.4mpg combined (C-MAX) is possible from the engine as it emits 117g/km of CO2. The 2.0-litre Duratorq diesel is another noteworthy addition to the range as its output is remarkable. It can carry the Grand C-MAX from 0-60mph in less than ten seconds and releases just 119g/km of CO2.
Like their predecessors, the very latest C-MAX and Grand C-MAX are exceptionally safe. Intelligent Protection System (IPS) is the name of Ford’s all-encompassing suite of safety systems which include multiple airbags, ISOFIX mountings for children’s seats and a host of active technology. Bringing the car under control during a hazardous situation are Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). Hill Start Assist holds the MPVs steady as you pull away on steep slopes, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) prevents understeer or oversteer from taking you out of your lane.
