A clever design inside and out, twinned with class-leading technology, makes the B-MAX a hugely capable vehicle for all the family. Ford’s most recent engine developments provide a welcome boost to the car’s efficiency to make it still greater value for money.
Award-winning technology powers the B-MAX. It is available with Ford’s revolutionary 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine producing 99bhp, 118bhp and 123bhp. Coated piston rings, turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing combine for powerful performance that is also efficient. The 118bhp EcoBoost with automatic start/stop system can return as much as 57.7mpg combined. Two diesel units are also included in the shape of the fuel-saving 1.6-litre and 1.5-litre TDCi engines. The former releases only 104g/km of CO2 and achieves up to 70.6mpg combined to save you more money at the pumps.
The B-Max is highly practical, but also scores highly regarding aesthetics. On the Studio trim level you will see a chrome surround on the grille plus daytime running lights that make sure you are seen in low light. Shapely tail lights and headlamps enhance the vehicle’s attractive light signature, while a folded body and bonnet suggest forward momentum even when the B-MAX is parked. A noteworthy feature of the body is the design of the doors. The car’s supporting ‘B’ pillars are incorporated with the doors rather than the body itself, so when you open the front and sliding side doors an unobstructed 1.5 metre gap is created.
Taking your seat is effortless, and once inside you have a superb view of the road from your raised position. The rest of the interior is flexible and functional. Seven seating configurations can be chosen depending on whether you need to transport luggage or people. An adjustable luggage compartment in the floor adds to your carrying options too. The spacious and airy nature of the cabin is accentuated by the vast glass panoramic roof, standard fit on the B-MAX Titanium X.
An unwavering focus on safety is typical of Ford, and for the B-MAX it resulted in full marks from independent crash test authority Euro NCAP. The organisation scored the model highly for its seven airbag system and ultra-high-strength steel structure. Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance and optional Active City Stop systems also received a Euro NCAP Advanced award for their ability to maintain the safety of motorists. As standard, each B-MAX model is fitted with an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Traction Control, all of which work to keep you out of harm’s way.
Plenty more technology connects you with everything outside of the cabin. The standard radio/CD player with DAB digital tuner and auxiliary connection is upgraded with a 3.5-inch multi-functional display, USB input and Ford SYNC when you purchase the Zetec model.
A Sony radio system with 4.2-inch TFT display, voice controls and Ford AppLink sits inside the Titanium and Titanium X. There is also the option for SD card-based satellite navigation in the top-of-the-range variants.
